Phaser Mini Report - September 2022

It's been a while since my last post here, and I'm afraid that although this is not a new Phaser Dev Log, it was high time I let you all know what has been happening to me.

Earlier this year, like lots of people, I caught covid. And, like lots of people, after a couple of weeks of feeling crappy, I shook it off and carried on with my life. Except, it had other ideas and left some lingering issues in my body. Without getting into the gory details, I have been really unwell for several months now. I spent almost the entirety of August in excruciating pain. As anyone who has suffered from persistent pain knows, it becomes unbelievably draining, both mentally and physically.

As you can appreciate, this is not conducive to working. When you're so utterly drained from being awake all night in pain, it makes it really hard to focus on just living, never mind coding.

On the plus side, after weeks and weeks of this, things are slowly returning to normal. I'm back in the office working half-days every day of the week now. I wish they were full days, but that's still a good chunk of time to dedicate to Phaser (and far better than it was!). I'm even getting to enjoy playing a few games now and again, too (including the superb Last Call BBS)

Unfortunately, things still flare up though. I had to take last Friday off entirely, for example, due to a night wracked with pain, leaving me shattered the following day. This was, of course, unplanned and unexpected. I had been looking forward to working on the new Tween Chains in 3.60 that day, but I guess the universe had other plans. I'm not fully 'fixed' yet, but I do at least feel a million times better than even a month ago. Give or take the odd day.

Right now, my plan is simply to carry on with Phaser 3.60 development as best as I can. I've made massive headways here and am really pleased with everything completed so far. There are a lot of really cool new features in this build, to say the least.

I haven't been able to update the Phaser website for a long time, and I know I haven't posted much here, either. But if you keep an eye on the Phaser GitHub, you'll see a constant steady little stream of ever-ongoing work. I may not be functioning at full capacity yet, but I absolutely have not given up, either. It just requires a little more investigation to see the fruits of this, I'm afraid.

I'm also hanging out in the Phaser Discord as much as I can, so you can often find me there.

Because a lot of you keep asking: I have no plans to do any work on Phaser 4 until 3.60 is released. Once 3.60 is out, I want to focus on doing some housekeeping tasks, like updating the examples, tidying the website, and creating some tutorials and learning materials, to give 3.60 the proper introduction to the world it deserves. After this, and only after this, Phaser 4 will be my sole focus. Hopefully, by then, I'll be fully healthy as well.

My thanks to those of you who have remained loyal to Phaser. I don't like the feeling of letting you all down by delaying things so much, but please be reassured that work is still ongoing, and I have not, and will not, give up.
